Come and see what God has done…

The night that changes everything

I’m often uncomfortable with the ‘merry’ of ‘merry Christmas’ – it seems too trivial a wish. No harm in being merry and bright, but surely the night of Jesus’ birth means more? The French version, a blessing of joy, feels so much better. Joy is so far beyond merriment; beyond jokiness, beyond even happiness. Joy is a laughter that erupts like a volcano from the deepest part of us. It is the smile the greets news so good that you weren’t even sure it was possible. it is the moment in the movie where you discover, despite everything, that the story will end well. Joy is the assurance that the universe does after all love justice; that good can triumph; that cynicism and bitterness will not win the day.

It is joy that the night of Jesus’ birth releases to us.

This, then, is our wish for you this Christmas. To all who have journeyed with us; prayed for us; supported us and loved us through this year. We want to thank you, but more than that, we want to bless you. May joy unspeakable erupt in you in this season. May laughter like lava burn up all your tears. May the good news of his coming outweigh and outmatch every loss and blow you’ve carried. May you know in the marrow of your bones that what his coming means – that your story will after all end well.

Love and blessings,

Gerard and Chrissie.
