The Friday wrap-up

Those of you who enjoyed Mikey Madison’s Oscar-winning turn in Anora might want to check out Better Things. The series, created by the magnificent Pamela Adlon, is about a working actress in Hollywood who is also a single parent. My mom friends tell me it gets parenting teenagers exactly right in ways other shows have failed to, and it’s also very funny, with a really big heart.

I adored this Glynnis Macnicol essay about the 1978 Paul Mazursky film An Unmarried Woman, about a woman who rediscovers freedom, sex, and more after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. It made a huge impact on me when I saw it in the theaters all those years ago. You can’t find this movie anywhere; for some crazy reason it’s not streaming. But it is playing at the Metrograph on March 13, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be there.
